@ernie @tedium Seconding this whole post! I've been daily-driving Bazzite on my gaming PC since April. I installed it partly in reaction to the Windows Recall nonsense, but mostly that was an excuse to tinker with something new.
Surprisingly, it's been rock solid and it's run every game I've thrown at it from Steam & Epic & GoG? Only thing it won't play are games from Xbox Game Pass, because it's really dependent on Windows. (Cloud play works swimmingly, though)
And since I use that machine for tinkering on side projects, also I've dug into VS Code + Distrobox + Podman with pretty good success. (Maybe better luck than you had?) Very nice not to accidentally drive my PC into a ditch because I blundered into installing something stupidly
@thegibson then someday you can uninstall it and call that machine an EX-PARROT!
I feel like the threshold, these days, to render me a slavering breathless fanboy of some product or service is just that it works as expected and doesn't annoy me and doesn't interrupt me to sell something else.
Like... I pick up a screwdriver. It drives a screw. It doesn't stab me in the hand or up-sell to a battery-powered screwdriver. I fall in love and won't shut up about it.
I open MyFitnessPal to record my weight today. It interrupts me to update, it interrupts me to subscribe, it crashes, it restarts, it takes 15 seconds, finally it presents me with the weight entry screen. I contemplate vengeance.
I open Strava to record my short workout today. It interrupts me to subscribe, it interrupts me to view my "year in sport", it crashes, I reopen it to try again. It takes 15 seconds to open the manual entry screen. I contemplate vengeance.
In all practical reality, I'm probably just going to switch to a small spreadsheet or something next year.

That thing where in a conversation I casually mention something that person told me in the past which, shortly after mentioning it, we both realize they wish they hadn't told me and I wish I hadn't remembered.
And the funny thing isn't that I mentioned it maliciously or to be clever, it's just a notion that bubbled up in my head and I let tumble out of my mouth to fill an anxious pause in the conversation because I'm running the "perform human conversation" module and mine is very buggy
@gregtatum Like, I've avoided doing this kind of thing because it seems like a pain to DIY. But, I think the apps have successfully made it more painful not to DIY 😅

Interesting thing about Mozilla:
Did you know that the Manifesto doesn't mention the web other than to say "We are best known for creating the Mozilla Firefox web browser"? Beyond that, it very intentionally talks about "the internet".
I think some folks are confused or surprised when Mozilla does things other than Firefox and the web.
But, there is an internet outside of Firefox and the web - and those things are considered mission-aligned by the org.
Whether you agree with Mozilla doing particular things is a different story, but at least understand the declared mission
