@thegibson I keep thinking self-hosting online spaces should be like self-hosting physical event venues in small towns.
Maybe naive, but like my grandparents and friends' parents helped run the VFW, K of C, and Lions Club halls in the town where I grew up. That always seemed like a pro-civic thing to look up to.
But, also, those venues & organizations seem vaguely problematic to me now and I'm too much a hermit to be a community organizer most days. :sadness:
There's a genre of response I see in political threads against oligarchs that goes something like "oh you're just jealous of their {power, money, success}"
And I'm like, oh, no, I don't think this fond feeling toward guillotines and burning piles of money can be accurately described as jealousy...
working through notifications since I stepped away for lunch...

"I'll have that fixed in a PR in 20 min!"

"You too, have a good one!"

Meetup-dot-com has emailed me (and likely other folks) a few times with an invitation to take over as organizer for a couple events that @craigmaloney@octodon.social used to host and I used to attend.
I don't like it.
