Like, there's an ancient atomic fireball in the sky that's the source of nearly all energy on the planet. We have the technology to harvest its radiation immediately, as well as store it for later use.
But, instead, we rely on the destructive burning of indirect storage products of that energy which took millions of years to accumulate.
This, while those products - unburned - are actually very handy for use in materials science.
