@domo They were fighting for better workers' rights the entire time my dad worked - and things only got worse or at best stayed about the same.
So yeah, my dad had that job and I benefited from it. Folks before him had worse jobs, so at least there was some improvement. But we can and should do better now, not try to roll back history and call it a win.
I think you only get two of these: cheap goods, record shareholder profits, or workers' rights. You don't get all three. And the first two have an easier fight. A different battle altogether needs to be fought.

Brain came up with a sudden demand to listen to the 1995 concept album (i.e. a "cyber-opera") "Labyrinth" from The Fair Sex.
It's not on Spotify. There's an empty folder on my Plex server for the album, which I thought I'd ripped years ago. It exists on Bandcamp, but I distinctly remember I have the physical CD somewhere in my basement.
A determined 20 minutes of shifting bins on shelves later, I found the CD. Ripped it, so now the empty folder is filled and I'm listening to it.
Sometimes my brain assigns itself a geas and I can't refuse it.

I used to listen to this album and a few other semi-obscure 90s era electronic & industrial bands at the front desk of my dorm when I worked the overnight shift from 11pm - 7am.
So, playing this album always comes with an inseparable liminal 3am vibe for me.
Almost no one ever came to the desk during that time. I'd often be dialed into BBSes and campus unix servers on a spare phone line with a little palmtop computer. It was an almost perfect job for me at that time, except for the havoc it played on my sleep patterns.

@terri Not to be That Guy, but have you heard of / considered / already rejected jail breaking your current Kindle? (if so, sorry and please ignore me completely!)
But, if not, it's possible that jail breaking could get you the needs on that list. At least the Calibre and epub bits
@terri I would also say I've had pretty good luck with my BOOX Tab Ultra C - which is super overkill as just an e-reader, though it's great for PDFs.
But one of their smaller e-readers might be nice? Runs a not entirely garbage version of android, so you can install a bunch of readers & etc.
Had it on my TODO list to jailbreak my oldest Kindle. Decided to give it a go. Found out that I already jailbroke it back in 2010. Welp. 😅
@aleen Yeah, I guess the best practical thing I can think of for now is to install KOReader so I can someday hook it up to Calibre. But I don't have a ton of stuff to do with it right now either 🤷♂️
