Homeowner problems: Really annoyed with dog walkers in my neighborhood.
Trash gets collected every 2 weeks. Dog walkers throw dog crap bags in my empty trash bin on trash day, after it's been collected.
So, I get to keep dog crap in my trash bin, cooking in the sun, for 2 weeks, every 2 weeks.
I have daydreams of setting up elaborate snares where I spring load the trash bin to fling the bags back out at them
Once upon a time, I got into a flamewar with dog owners on Nextdoor about this. I deleted my account to prevent myself from continuing to flame
But seriously, take your dang poop bags home to your own trash, ya filthy animals
Oh, and what's especially lovely: They use these biodegradable bags for poop. They biodegrade in my trash can, so I just have poop.

I gotta check to be sure, but I think the Nest thermostat that came with our house is about to be obsoleted.
Whatever we get as a replacement most certainly won't be another Nest. Ideally, it'd be something that works off our LAN and talks to Home Assistant without the cloud involved.

@jrconlin As a sicko, I'm almost tempted to just build my own, since I've seen a few projects using networked microcontroller boards (e.g. ESP32) that I've played with for other stuff around the house

If you build it, they will come and generate metrics data points for your dashboards that hopefully please stakeholders
