We have a ritual here every night: at 9pm, I mix a couple liquid medications for Catsby into a bit of Churu cat treat and put that on top a dollop of wet food. Since lil bro Cosmo is around, he gets a miniature version without meds - or else he'd try to share with Catsby and he'd be allowed.

If I am late with this, as I was tonight, Catsby finds me on the couch and starts meowing and pawing at me until I get up to prepare his evening snack

If this seems gratuitous, it's an evolution from when I used to hunt Catsby down at 9pm every night to pin him and squirt the liquid meds into his mouth. He hated this and started hiding.

I started mixing it with treats and that was a different story. Then the vet told me he needed to gain weight, so he got extra wet food with meds.

Then Cosmo wanted in on this, and you see what it turned into

Nice thing is I don't need an alarm for Catsby's meds anymore, because he won't let me forget

The only reason Cheddars isn't in on this is she follows my wife to bed at 9pm and apparently doesn't know what's going on in the kitchen. Which is okay because she does *not* need extra meals

Dang it, my brain suddenly demands I play Terraria. This happens every few years. And when it does, I get a sudden hyperfocus rabbit hole thing that lasts a week or so and evaporates abruptly. I've only ever made it past the first few bosses in the game despite playing it since release.

Been playing Terraria off & on since release - which I just realized was 2011. 💀 Still, I've only ever made it past the first boss or two.

I think that's my general M.O. with games: I get to a point where I'm like "ooh novelty" and then "ah, okay, I get how it goes from here" and wander off.

I very rarely want grinding or more of the same thing, once I see the pattern. Until, I guess, the anti-novelty wears off and it feels novel again? (Thus the repeat visits to Terraria)

Sometimes I'm really jealous of folks who can just lock into a Special Interest like Terraria and just milk endless reliable dopamine from the thing.

Meanwhile I'm like BORED NOW and have to go hunting again

@robdaemon Yeah, No Man's Sky grabs me like that occasionally too. Sometimes it's the exploration and photo tourism, sometimes it's base-building

@Osmose dang it, i am in this picture

@earth2marsh Cats are definitely a weirdly similar mix of routine and novelty seeking 🤔

Also why does Jason Bateman look like Grizzly Adams?

I tried listening to their podcast, awhile back, because I like all three of those actors. They had big-name guests and I guess did a few fun things, but I don't think I'm into that show format? Like, popular because it's about popular, famous, celebrity stuff?

Finally watching Front 242's final live show and... dang

injury; blood

I have a scar over my right eye from an elbow I caught while I was watching Front 242 at Lollapalooza 1993 in Michigan. I barely felt it and thought I was just really sweaty until security hauled me off to get stitches 😅

Sweet crimony that was a lineup

Working on a thing

Dang, Front 242 absolutely did not dare phone in this final show, 40 fuckin years

"Welcome to Paradise" came out my Freshman year of high school. That was about 37 years ago. 💀

Weirdly at the start of the year, I was more into like Paula Abdul and Def Leppard. By the end of the year, my brain was fully colonized by Ministry, Skinny Puppy, and Front 242.

I'm weirdly verklempt watching them play that song in their last show.

Like, I know plenty of other aging folks have had an experience like this with their favorite bands. But dang, it's weird when it comes for you 😅

@thegibson This shit was only supposed to happen to my parents and hippies dang it

The Project progresses

@Firesphere Hmm, I'm not sure, I've had it forever. I think it might be a Tinker? It's got both scissors and plyers
