@evan Years ago, as a devoted JS coder in vim, the thing that really got me liking TypeScript and VSCode was how much it enabled the documentation features and chasing references around inside the IDE. It tries its best with plain JavaScript, but can really help if you've got types.

Still a very serious person in meetings. Much gravitas.

They're touting an extra thin iphone air as a "piece of the future" and all I can see is that giant-ass camera bump. And I'm just like - flatten that out with moar battery, make it thicc.

Like seriously, I think the camera bump (excuse me "plateau") and the "dynamic island" screen intrusion are embarassments

apple

@socketwench Yaasssss, also I feel like this should be a Cake song.

Phone so thin it falls through the molecules of the earth when you accidentally drop it, to eventually inescapably orbit the planet's molten core

apple event

Ah, yup, they're calling the camera bump the "plateau"

I feel like Apple's MO these days is "design embarrassment? NO, bravery. Make it bigger and give it a Don Draper name like 'carousel'"

apple event

I think a thing that has me yawning and eye rolling through a new iPhone announcement over the past few years is I just don't care about camera upgrades?

They've been good enough for me for years now. I'd rather have a camera downgrade if it gives me a uniform shape without a "plateau".

Give me better battery, let me do more stuff with it. Hell, let me live the dream of Samsung Dex and hook it up to a keyboard & monitor sometimes with official support.

apple event

Give me back a headphone jack, if you can afford the space for an "iconic extended plateau"

apple event

Of course, if Apple restored the headphone jack, it would probably work like Magic Mouse charging

apple event

@giflian Don't worry, they have a cross-body sling strap for it now 🙃

@cinebox Bravery!

Seriously: If Apple wanted to show courageous bravery, they'd invent transparent aluminum and unleash Translucent Atomic Purple for iPhone

apple event

In case you haven't guessed, whenever this iPhone 13 of mine crumbles to dust, my next phone won't be an iPhone.

Hell, I might even save money by getting a top-end Android model from a few years ago because apparently most of the things I actually care about technologically have "plateau"ed (see what I did there?)

@mhoye I feel like this *might* be relevant to this interest?

@mhoye This, I do not know, but that sounds kinda rad if you can 🤔

I know I'm a definite outlier weirdo, but I miss the short period when I had a Palm Pre and I was hacking on WebOS with diff, patch, and quilt using my webdev skills to make my phone do neat things.

Oof. I guess a certain Michigan veterinarian that I haven't visited in many many years just installed some new software for their practice—because they just sent me "happy birthday" emails for a half-dozen dead pets.

Like, I don't really want to call them out in particular, but sheesh that's not friendly

I don't want to stan for the IHeartMedia corporate behemoth, but I will say I'm spoiled for Gen-X / Millennial oldies between 89X (CIMX-FM) in Windsor and Live 105 (KITS) in San Francisco
