Coined a new term for myself: fugue-scrolling—it's like doom-scrolling but not necessarily depressing, except that I come out the other side of it feeling like I've lost time to an alien abduction.

Relatedly, I checked out the iOS feature that lets you set a time limit for using an app.

I gave myself a 15 minute limit on TikTok. I ran through it *immediately* while making breakfast. 😳

Like, I enjoyed what I saw. It was better than just dissociating into a thousand-yard stare at the state of the world. But, I've also got stuff to get on with and do.

Been on a spree lately. This cat finished this morning!

@kf FWIW, I've been using Obsidian for years now! Mostly just notes with links and daily pages, but not a lot of other features of the app.

Because I hate myself, I use syncthing to sync the notes between laptop, phone, desktop, and NAS. On iOS, the version of syncthing I use is "Mobius Sync" The NAS pushes to a private github repo for backups and change tracking.

@kf That's fair.. I also think there are Obsidian plugins that just commit to git directly, which you might have seen. (I should try one 🤔)

I also tried throwing myself down the zettelkasten rabbit hole, but I don't think I'm hardcore enough for that.

I mostly just have a daily page of notes with light structure, and sometimes long-running pages bubble off from those. I also actually use a lot of in notes, and have a few pages with embedded search queries for those tags

Peering again at my Obsidian setup. I have daily pages where I juggle to-dos for today, tomorrow, this week, and someday.

Most of the undone to-dos carry over from day to day. The ones in "someday" go to a page where they accumulate forever as aspirations.

I do this all manually, every morning over coffee. I know there are some plugins that can do the carry over, but none of them do what I want.

Tempted to write a node script or something, since I don't want to be locked into Obsidian. 🤔

Since I sync all my notes from Obsidian to all my devices, including a NAS, I think of them more as markdown files and less like "Obsidian files". Obsidian could go away someday and my notes are still fine.

So, it doesn't seem entirely bonkers to just run a cronjob every night on my notes in the NAS and sync back to my devices. I already run a cronjob every 5 minutes to commit changes to a private git repo

@flargh Vive le quantified self!

@Skoop Yeah, there is that. Part of why I do this is because anything I don't see and dwell on briefly is literally "out of sight, out of mind"

Ah yes, deploying the old Irish Goodbye on a Zoom call

(throwing home internet router into bathtub full of water)

Update: i told my phone to give me another 15 minutes of tiktok while i made lunch. I spent all of them watching an elderly raccoon eat a lemon cookie

I'm sitting outside to eat my lunch. A wasp came by. I told it to fuck off and it did. I hope it doesn't come back with friends
