I'm a lil sad because I lost one of my earbuds when I was on that work trip last week. But, not too sad, because they only cost $15. Splurged a little and got a new pair of Moondrop Space Travel 2 for $30.
Maybe I'm just blessed with poor taste, but I've been really pretty satisfied with all but the very cheapest of ear buds? I've given AirPods a shot, but couldn't really tell a 5-10x improvement between them and some of the apparent trash I've bought over the years.
I will say a thing I don't entirely like about these is they have an anime waifu narrate the various states of the device, but whatever

A part of my brain keeps interpreting the motion as notifications sliding away on one of my monitors, inducing repeated tiny panics.

Also who decided that notifications need to fade in but slide away. I never see the fade, only see the motion, which alerts me only to the fact that I missed something

In other pet news: Miss Biscuits is full of beans this morning. She batted toy mice repeatedly under both my wife's and my office door until we came out and threw them around for her. We both kinda had a cat break, like a smoke break but less smokey

LRT: Seriously, what if we had leaderboards for tax payments? Like, cheer and shower adulation on the citizens who paid the most to make the country go. Gamify it, attach a score to the number of folks housed & clothed & fed. Really make it a competition
Stupid slothmas tech project idea: I was considering picking up one of those little Dell office PCs to play with as a server.
But, then, another idea occurred to me: what if I moved my gaming PC to the basement, stuck proxmox on it, then used a Dell office PC as a game streaming client at the couch with Sunshine & Moonlight? I could also make the gaming PC be a server when I'm not gaming all the time. I could also stream games to a mac laptop or my phone or maybe my Nintendo Switch?
Why would I do this? Because my gaming PC has been working fine for far too long as-is.
@yojimbo I think this is a YouTube video where I saw a lot of it covered, but yeah... you can install Proxmox, then Linux and/or Windows in VMs atop that, give passthrough access to the GPU to a VM, plugin in a dongle to make the GPU think it has a real monitor, then stream over LAN using Sunshine (server) and Moonlight (client) on a bunch of devices https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAqGEUt9V_M

@thomasfuchs I've only tried it so far with a couple games, but it seems to work pretty great with Warframe? And that's the most frenetic thing I play other than an occasional Fortnite foray. Might be fun to play with

@joeycastillo A Deepness in the Sky along with A Fire Upon the Deep are both a couple of my absolute favorites. I really need to re-read Deepness soon.
That said... have you read Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovksy? I haven't gotten to the rest of the series, but the first book is uncannily like Deepness. But IIRC the author claims not to have read Vinge's book before writing his.
