Ugh. We adopted Minnaloushe about 2 1/2 months ago. He's been settling well, though we can tell he's had some trauma at some point. Not aggressive, but hair trigger to throw paws if he gets his boundaries disrespected. Miss Biscuits and Cosmo have mostly respected this, though they both keep making overtures to be friendly.
Then, yesterday, he rather abruptly decided that Cosmo needed his ass kicked. Claws out, blood drawn, won't stop stalking him. Cosmo's terrified
I'm a bit worried that Minnaloushe may need to be the sole pet in a quiet home. He's lovely to us humans. We're his third adoptive home and I'd hate to push him on to his fourth, but drawing blood is a good way to get voted off the island.
Talking to the vet, getting feliway and anti-anxiety meds, going to try to get him smoothed out. But, very worried about all this. We've been lucky to have never dealt with this before in 7 cats that we've had at various points
And I know there's not necessarily human logic in what cats do, but I'm trying to figure it out anyway. Far as i can tell, Cosmo is not an aggressor, he just wants out of the situation. Minnaloushe keeps stalking him and chattering at him before attacking. And it's definitely not play fighting
I'm like, did Cosmo do something yesterday that set this off? Is Minnaloushe suddenly feeling sick or in pain that's triggering him? Wish they could speak
We've got Minnaloushe separated in a bedroom right now. He jumped directly into my lap, flopped, started purring. I'm like, bud, this is great, can you just stop trying to murder your roommate?
Update: The vet gave us gabapentin for both Minnaloushe and Cosmo. The boys are currently having some nice relaxed drug naps on separate floors of the house.
Hopefully being doped up for a little while addresses Cosmo's trauma and mellows out Minnaloushe's rampage to interrupt the cycle. Also, Feliway diffusers are deployed in several rooms. We may get anti-anxiety meds for Minnaloushe.
I'm half wondering if Minna got keyed up seeing critters on the deck yesterday?
The boys are looking quite relaxed. I kinda want to steal some of their drugs
