@kbob There was a model for printing two tiny beads, yeah. That or a different face model with larger printable eyes. But I figured just going eyeless would bring more holiday cheer
So I gave in and bought a spool dryer. We'll see how it does after a few hours or overnight.
@wohali@octodon.social Yeah, I suspect this super-cheap spool of PETG came somewhat moisture-enriched from the factory, by most accounts I saw from dumb googling. And my basement where all this stuff lives is about 50-55% humidity, typically.
Seemed like time in a container with desiccant made a difference when printing some test temperature towers, but I wanted to give it a bit more convincing.

@bartt i got this Sunlu S2 single spool dryer, good so far? Pretty quiet, seems not to have caught on fire yet, appears to have done the needful, and filament can feed out of it with a ptfe tube while it’s running thanks to rollers on the bottom and a port out the top.
@bartt ah, yeah, i also have a bunch of air tight cereal storage containers with hygrometers and boxes of desiccant beads that can be dried / recharged in an oven
Feeding this PETG straight from the dryer, so far so good. I’m trying to print this alternate MMU3 buffer design that fits inside the enclosure and bolts to the printer frame #3dprinting
@layered Those are all air-tight cereal bins from amazon with filament spools and desiccant to keep them dry. Printed up some rollers that sit on the bottoms, so I can feed filament right out of the bin lids.
@layered Ah, specifically, I got these "Chef's Path" bins from Amazon. They fit most 1kg spools I've found https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081F6X2W2
@layered The tops of those bins have little flip-top lids so you could pour cereal without fully opening them. I printed this replacement lid that accepts a PTFE fitting for a bowden tube to guide the filament out

@twipped They're PC4-M10 PTFE tube fittings. I bought a pile of 'em and use em all over the place
They also come in a smaller PC4-M6 variety, but those mostly just seem like trouble because they seem to have a hex-shaped opening that the filament catches on.
