@danmactough Eeet naht a toomah (as far as I know)

@mekkaokereke Along with pooling storage, it'd probably make folks on the rest of the web happy if mastodon instances pooled opengraph / preview card fetches. Maybe through shared caching proxies or protocol tweaks. Anything to cut down the thundering herd every time a link is shared.

@cederbs Oh, that's a good way to describe my personal timezone 🤔

@dalias That would probably make watching the federated feed (or any feed, really) turn a bit nasty on the local instance @mekkaokereke

@jenniferplusplus Yeah, the notion of a shared caching proxy is for sure a hacky bandaid of an idea.

IMO, I think any preview card(s) should be a part of the poster's original message - i.e. an attachment just like images or video. Could be interesting if sites' own OG metadata were signed, but probably less likely to make happen across the web.

Personally, most of my own sites are just static pages in AWS S3, so I've never experienced an issue from the "mastodon DDOS effect' - but I think some folks just don't have great caching setups on their blogs & etc and get caught by surprise

@mekkaokereke

A youtube channel is not a podcast, it's just sparkling dudes on a couch with mic booms

@SnoopJ I can hear the opening synths of the soundtrack to Facing Worlds and the sound effects of item pickups

@SnoopJ @aud haha crazy, yeah 😅

@SnoopJ @aud The one other map I ever really played regularly in UT99 was one of those giant-sized models of several rooms of a house and the players were all mouse-sized. I remember sniping from the bathroom ceiling vent

You know actually what I want in a car? Not even buttons for every individual thing. Maybe just cursor keys, under my fingers, on the steering wheel.

I'd rather input the Konami code without looking than fumble around with a touch screen or be disappointed by another voice interface.

I seem to remember I had a car with a cursor joystick, but it was on the center console under my elbow and didn't seem to actually work to control much at all

But, like, a voice interface? In a car?

"wait wait everybody shut up, turn down the music, roll up the windows, i need to tell the car something"

Went for a walk to the park after falling out of the habit since like last Spring. The crows appear to remember me. Luckily, I remembered to bring treats.
