@sysop aww man, someday I'll get a bass guitar and start learning. I've been meaning to for years. I have very little excuse besides making the time since there's a guitar shop like 2 blocks from my house

I can't quite make it to #monsterdon, but I appreciate you all and this movie very much :blobbounce:
I'm probably going to watch the movie later tonight and scroll back through #monsterdon :D
@nev Haha, too late, I have already seen it like a dozen times. It has helped warp me
Following with great cackling laughter the apparent mass migration of folks from the soon-to-be-banned-in-the-USA-because-it's-Chinese app Tiktok to the app Xiǎohóngshū (or "little red book") which, I mean, :bloblaugh:
No idea how actually big a story this is, but the irony is just holy crap
Like, 1/3 of my tiktok feed is full of amateur mandarin lessons how on how to pronounce the app's name; another 1/3 is folks thanking their personally-assigned Chinese government spy for curating their algorithm; and the last 1/3 is folks cussing out the US government.
I'm sure everyone is happy to flop on over to youtube shorts or some meta slop
And the thing is, from what I can tell on rednote (aka Xiǎohóngshū), chinese folks are roasting the hell out of americans for our shitty healthcare and work culture and americans are vibing 😅
@micahflee This is the kind of guy who longs for someone to duet hack with on the same keyboard
A thing of which I'm desperately tired: People who make things that become meaningful to me but who then reveal themselves to be garbage humans.
That thing where I've been trying to remember the name of a song for close to 3 months and it just suddenly comes up on shuffle and I flip out and scare the cats
@phire Yeah, I think that's a thread I need to keep bookmarked
@robdaemon this displeases me greatly
@deathkitten Main thing I'm tired of with Star Trek is when showrunners are like "but what if the Federation's actually really bad and everything's grimdark" - really, I'm tired of edgy grimdark everything in general
The thing I loved from TNG was when there were competent adults trying to do the right thing and be their best selves
@deathkitten Well, I did really dislike DS9 at first, but it eventually became pretty close to my favorite Trek. Mainly, I think because it was dark but kind of made its way to hope, yeah.
Discovery I liked, sorta, but felt like it was kind of a mess.
Prodigy, I've gotten through the first season and kinda liked it too?
Really, the series I grumble at the most is Picard
@deathkitten I kind of couldn't believe that the last season of Discovery was kind of just a rehashing of just "The Chase", even down to the MacGuffin collecting.
And I really wished in Picard that they'd stop resurrecting and destroying Data, among other things. (I think the actor would have liked that too 😅 )
@deathkitten The one "Data & Geordi together again" story that I still really like was from the Star Trek: Waypoint comic where Geordi was captain of a ship that Data had essentially occupied as his replacement body and crewed every station with holograms for Geordi's comfort
@hannah our neighborhood is rife with "girlballz" and I keep wondering if I should put out a tray of cookies or something as a friendly offering to the local toughs
This CEO of AI music company saying people don't like making music makes me think there's going to be slap-chop-style informercials for AI products soon.
"There's got to be a better way!" as the tagline after some hapless pale dude trips and falls through a half-dozen euroracks of modular synthesizers and half-strangles himself on patch cords.

@caroline "chatgpt, please twiddle my knobs" (oh wait that might be a different ad altogether)
I've said before that The Sandman is to me as Harry Potter is to other folks. I've been reading unsavory things about Gaiman for years now, but the new news is especially fucky.
I've also said that A Wizard of Earthsea is to me as Harry Potter is to other folks. I don't wanna hear anything untoward about Ursula K. Le Guin
But, like, seriously, as a dude myself: Could we have a few dudes making clever things who don't turn out to be absolute creeps?
@randomgeek @chrisjrn sometimes i can't touch my toes, totally normal
