Have you ever played with magnetic viewing film before?

I’m thinking about making a DIY case for this BOOX Tab Ultra C tablet and trying to plot out the locations of the magnets that pair the manufacturer’s case with the device.

This stuff is pretty neato, I can see all the case magnets and even the little speakers in the device

I also meant to do a few other tinkery productive things today...

...but instead my brain rediscovered an urge to play Caves of Qud for many hours

Like, I haven't played CoQ for a couple years and suddenly BAM it's time to roll up a new character

@skippy If you like old-school rogue & nethack, it plays like one of those on steroids. (Not saying ā€œroguelikeā€ because that’s rather diluted these days - and CoQ is very true to form.)

World setting is kinda semi-psychedelic fantasy in a fallen scifi world with cyborgs and mutants and talking plants and tinkering bears. Pretty great

@skinnylatte Yeah, I eat breakfast in front of a big light therapy panel every morning here in PDX - even if it’s a sunny day. Not sure how well it helps but I don’t want to stop and find out

caves of qud (long)

A common Caves of Qud experience for me:

I am a super-fast mutant crow gunslinger who just spent an hour or two delving down into the many levels of an ancient ruin full of robots and rock people.

I finally got past the phase spiders in the cryogenic labs to find the elevator down to where the machine cult hangs out, because I need to talk to them.

Get out of the elevator and-- oops, I guess I killed one or two machine cultists on the way down because the entire cult is mad at me.

And I'm out of ammo.

Okay, I'll just teleport back to town and regroup-- except, the teleporter battery is dead.

Welp, time to die and rewind to a checkpoint and pretend this was all just a precognitive nightmare.

So, the girl and I watched The Substance.

Holy shit, what a visceral body horror movie. Wasn't too hard to figure out where it was going once the rules of the thing were laid down.

But, it went like fully 1/3 longer on its trajectory than I expected it to go. Not that I wasn't onboard, but I was like "wait, they're not going to... oh they are..."

Maybe it's just because the director (Coralie Fargeat) is French, but parts of The Substance kinda felt like horror in the semi-surreal style of The Fifth Element
