klarna; ai

Hey remember when Klarna claimed they could cut the company in half and replace 700 jobs with an LLM?

This just in: “We just had an epiphany: in a world of AI nothing will be as valuable as humans!”

I’m so tired

Catsby is watching me exercise

@belghast It’s a Tempest cab (same monitor at Star Wars!)

@belghast yeah, I love this game but it’s kind of my white whale. I need to get around to taking another swing at repairing it. I’ve had it for years but it’s only ever worked for a few hours 😅

@68km “even more” 😅

re: klarna; ai

@randomgeek Yeah, that's totally where I am: not smug, tired

Also, this Tempest machine is like the perfect set of angles for Catsby to jump up and get into the basement rafters. He literally sprints from one end of the room to leap up onto the controls and then up the screen to the top, then onto beams and ducts from there.

Catsby has always been a high-places cat, as opposed to a lurk-under cat. I think he'd prefer to dwell in trees. He also seems to like this perch because it gets my attention, so that I walk over and he can jump down onto my shoulder

@misternineham That looks like it turned out really nice!

us politics; "long live the king"

A problem with my country, I think, is that a significant number of people really wouldn't see much wrong with a king taking over. Like, they really don't understand what the fuss of that whole revolution thing was all about

re: us politics; "long live the king"

Like, a king is perfect. They're in charge, you get to complain about them, but then you don't have to do anything about it because you can''t. But also, you know who's in charge and that's a comforting thing you don't have to worry about

re: us politics; "long live the king"

I, too, dislike being an adult quite often

re: us politics; "long live the king"

I think this is part of why I'm not all that fond of high fantasy stories with kings & queens and fealty and all that. It doesn't sound "romantic" to me, I don't yearn for it.

Like, in Star Trek, the ship's captain is the leader and folks have loyalty to them. You could mistake that role for royalty. But, the subordinates can disagree, transfer off the ship, go pursue other things.

I'm sure these are not original thoughts that I'm fumbling at. Also I'm not entirely fond of the military structure of command either, but it's familiar to my impoverished brain

re: us politics; "long live the king"

@evan Yeah, that seems like a relatively defanged monarchy. I'm sure an new American monarchy would be something a lot nastier

re: us politics; "long live the king"

@corbden I guess that's another thing too, I got kicked out of Sunday School as a little kid because I couldn't ever sit still with any of that

re: us politics; "long live the king"

@AAKL All that drama makes me yearn for mere contentious committees 😅

I don't know anything about this band "Tropical Fuck Storm" but I just got an email that they're playing in my town this summer and I think that's fabulous

Update: Tropical Fuck Party are messy and noisy and funky and seem pretty great. Hopefully I don't learn that they kick kittens

A prescription that was meant to be mailed to me has been made "ready for pickup". Now I have to decide which is more onerous: a phone call or putting on pants to take a bike ride across town to pick it up. Also considering that even after the phone call, I might still have to put on pants.

Like, I know this is not the end of the world, but the whole point of getting my prescription from this pharmacy is that they (usually) mail it to me and I can avoid going to where the sick people are to pick it up.

@cwdolunt Oh that looks rad! I used to live near that mall too

Ugh, actually, I think I do need to put on pants because I'm going on a trip soon and probably can't wait for them to put it in the mail :sadness:

I require lunch, but Cheddars has her own requirements

Update: i took Cheddars to the kitchen with me and it turns out she wants lunch too, so this is fortuitous that our interests align

@llamasoft_ox I can’t say I entirely recommend a cat as an accessory to Tempest, but sometimes the gameplay is more exciting when he bats at my head

Hmm, noticed that Github started adding a field to revise the commit message when I click "Squash and Merge" on a Pull Request. It prefills a "Co-authored-by: Your Name you@example.com" message.

But, it's literally "you@example.com" when GitHub knows my email address. Why do I have to enter it? Poking around to see if there's some new setting to change this like an email signature or something

@voltur I tried them when we first got a new TV that happened to be "smart". Didn't like any of them and plugged in a streaming stick. A few years later, the TV's stopped getting updates and I'm 3 streaming stick device upgrades down the road.
