Hmm, so at some point last year, Fastmail bought Pobox. I was a customer of both and already had a Fastmail account at the time.

As part of the acquisition, they created a second new Fastmail account for me with all my Pobox email forwarding aliases carried over.

Now, about 6 months later, I'm finally taking a look at merging that second new account into my existing email account. I managed to move over one of my domains and all my aliases except one.

Turns out the last domain and alias are my most important - me@lmorchard.com

I use that email on most things these days. Seems like I have to delete the second Fastmail account entirely in order to get it set up on my original? That's a little worrisome.

Tempted to find a different email forwarding service entirely, since one of the reasons I used Pobox was to keep addresses separate from inbox provider 🤔

Like, I have no problem with either Fastmail or Pobox, save that the latter no longer exists. But, I did like the idea that my email addresses were technically hosted somewhere other than where the messages got delivered.

@courtney Mostly an avoiding all eggs in one basket thing. The path to my inbox used to go through my domain DNS provider, forwarding provider, and then to several email inboxes - each of those was a separate company.

I've heard horror stories of folks entirely dependent on Google for domain, address, and inbox getting their account blocked for some entirely unrelated problem and they lose access to everything everywhere

I get an email from Facebook that someone in my family has posted something. I click on the link. Facebook wants me to login.

Oh, right, I don't log into Facebook anymore.

Emails from Facebook might as well be phishing attacks, these days
