Got into an argument with someone about the whole suspension of habeas corpus thing Stephen Miller mused about.
They asked by what mechanism Trump could possibly do that. I said he'd issue an Executive Order and folks in the regime would follow it.
They yelled at me for being ignorant of the law & constitution. I told them nothing's self-executing, if actual people with guns ignore it. They told me I was a moron.
Am I being too cynical?
What do the rules matter if actual live humans ignore them? Like, try to have a game of Magic: the Gathering when one of the players grabs your deck and flips the table before walking out of the game store. I don't think they permit that in the little rulebook packed in with the cards?
Oh, their last reply to me was that people took oaths to protect & carry out the Constitution. And I'm like, so did Trump? 🤷♂️
