@jalefkowit Kinda wish I could say this about perl, I put so much perl in my brain 20 years ago

OMG, someone setup a BBS under a VM370 mainframe OS.

This is a particular nostalgia vector for me, since my aforementioned 343gjzl email address was accessed via 3270 emulator on an IBM mainframe in college.

I think that was already outdated in 1993 when I got access to it. But weirdly it was neato because I knew REXX from the Amiga and I was like "this is a REXX system, I know this!"

@wohali Haha yeah, at some point I think I was up to some REXX-based shenanigans on the campus mainframe and got some chat messages or something from a sysadmin like "hey freshman, how the hell do you know how to do that"

There is a part of me who really wants to get into mainframe OS emulation, refresh myself on REXX and COBOL, and live like it's 1979

I mean, I was only 4 years old, but I figure it's like kids today wearing Nirvana t-shirts

@mkb ah yes, black sabbath, famous proponents of ISO standards

@flyingsaceur Perl is where I first wrote unit tests at all, I think? I used to have most of perldoc memorized, but I think I swapped those brain pages out for lolcat memes @jalefkowit

@zzt @afeinman Everything must make simple sense in isolation and have no side-effects! Everything must be easily and logically reasoned about! No complex or non-deterministic systems!

(I dunno how much of that is strictly true, but it seems to rhyme IMO)
