I got a null-brand RGB IoT light bulb from Aliexpress for $8 with Tasmota pre-installed that started working with my Home Assistant instance in under 5 minutes. Who knows how long it'll last, but this feels like the Future! Also who knows if I'll ever be able to buy another one 😅

Just had some dude in TikTok comments tell me I sound like a "blue haired chick in 9th grade" and it weirdly felt like a compliment?

@aparrish now this is pod racing!

medical; pos; mildly gross maybe?

@rgegriff Been very tempted to get on a GLP-1 for misc health benefits (heart stuff, sleep apnea maybe), but haven't gone through with it yet. Very curious how it works for ya

Back on my bullshit again, looking at data sheets I don't really entirely understand, wondering if I can torture this SN74CBT3251 IC into switching between my NES, SNES, Genesis, and a bunch of other old consoles on the teevee. They're cheap enough to try getting a few and cramming them onto a breadboard to see what happens

I think there's stuff about impedance matching and signal frequency and negative voltages that probably means something goes screwy. But also maybe not? Eh, let's poke wires into things and see what happens

This guy seems to have had success with a similar IC for switching between SCART connections. So maybe...?

Also, Ben Heck seems to have done this (a solid-state A/V switcher for composite video) with bus switches back in 2007, but the engadget article is badly bitrotted.

I want to take that, make it handle 8-12 inputs, and drive the selection lines from an ESP32 probably running ESPHome or Tasmota or some such

engadget.com/2007-03-13-how-to

I've read that you might see some cross-talk and ghosting between A/V sources with one of these chips? But, I'm not overly worried about that, since usually only one out of the 8-12 sources will actually be powered on.

@jbond Heh, *shouldn't* need, but I was really glad I was wearing helmet & gloves when a minivan abruptly cut me off in the bike lane to turn into a grocery store and I went over the handlebars and landed on my head

@wohali I'll have to check those out too! Really out of my depth, flailing between parts that cost US$0.50 and US$20.00 because I have a bunch to learn to really know what's what

@greg I've seen some folks do this with relays, but this would be like... 24 - 36 relays for 8 - 12 A/V inputs

@koalie This *is* almost literally my cat, though 😅

Just tried calling my Mom to wish her happy birthday. Got her voicemail, left a message. Then, went to hang up but my iPhone's screen just stayed black.

Pressed the power button, pressed volume buttons, poked and prodded it, dropped it in my charger. Nothing.

Prodded some more and finally the screen came back on - to reveal that I'd never hung up with my Mom's voice mail.

So, she probably just got about 90 seconds of my muttering & whispering a stream of vile obscenities at my phone 🙃

@thomasfuchs Yeah, iOS 26. We hates it

@benbrown Whenever I get components in little crinkly baggies like this, I alert both my wife and our cats who all think I have some kind of treat

I just saw someone write that is protesting by cosplaying a Fortnite lobby and I think that's beautiful
