aw dang it, they deleted my fake Jamie Hyneman account called "theREALjamiehyneman" which only ever posted "5pm tweetin time" every day for a month in 2009

Oh no wait, it's still there! I called it "THEjamiehyneman"

x.com/THEjamiehyneman

If the real Jamie Hyneman ever wanted this account, I'd just hand it over, but he never emailed me back

Huh, you know? I forgot the Switch 2 exists :thinknyan:

Like, I was kind of excited that it was coming out, then it came out, then I stopped being so excited

@octothorpe @thomasfuchs Whoa, me too apparently? I forgot I still remembered my password 😅

@thomasfuchs I think my oldest still functioning is my pair.com account, where I registered my first domain name back in 2001 (decafbad.com) and never bothered to move it anywhere else

@aud It is indeed still bad. I also owned burritogood.com at one point, but decided that although I do love burritos the domain name wasn't hexidecimal enough @thomasfuchs

Actually, if anyone ever wants to buy decafbad.com for at least enough to pay off my house, I might consider it :thinkspin:

I should probably do something more interesting with it? Though, I did initially buy it to set up a telnet BBS, back in 2001. I am actually doing that with it now, though I keep neglecting it.

bbs.decafbad.com

My wife caught me in gremlin mode (a few notches past goblin mode) and hasn't left, so I have that going for me

@kf "and now I feel like it's keeping me locked into tech jobs forever"

oh dang do I feel that mood

@kf (cries in mortgage) :blobsweats:

@kf That said, go! get to your escape pod! 😅

@randomgeek would you like to take a survey on the survey?

Playing with a split-domain deployment of GoToSocial on lmorchard.com and it's gone... surprisingly well?

lmorchard.com is a static site behind an AWS CloudFront distribution, but they support JS functions to set up redirects.

So, I got /.well-known/* URLs bouncing over to gts.lmorchard.com with basically no drama.

So, like, say hello to @lmorchard@lmorchard.com ?

The "lmorchard" redundancy bugs me. I was tempted to set up me-at-lmorchard.com - like my email address - but mastodon and friends would show me as "me" as my username in a lot of spots :sadness:

I may yet change my mind

The next thing I'm thinking of doing is building a bot to re-post bookmarks I save to my Linkding instance so I can put my links on the fediverse. Probably at a separate account like links-at-lmorchard.com

Oh, the one tiny bit of drama that I ran into is that the machine to which I initially tried deploying GoToSocial apparently uses a too-old CPU. (Which, fair, this server is a repurposed gaming PC from many many moons ago)

It only supports x86-64-v1, while GoToSocial wants at least x86-64-v2. Weirdly, I'd never heard of this before, so I'm learning things.

Still plenty comfy on my fedi account over here on hackers.town, but don't want to annoy townies with hare-brained schemes that I might attempt fediverse-wise 😅

Also, I have toot.lmorchard.com running a full mastodon instance, but thinking I'm going to take that down because it's pretty gratuitous for just me

I'm repeatedly trying to reinvent reBlog from @migurski and friends, circa 2004 - i.e. the original retooting RSS reader.

(Well, maybe not original, if you count Radio UserLand's blogging features. But, reBlog was really about routing RSS items in to RSS items out.)

reblog.org

@davew I do need to actually get around to checking that stuff out! @migurski

@cinebox I haven't looked in the case in awhile, but Proxmox tells me it's a i7-3770 CPU - oof, circa 2012, much older than I remembered 😅

@particlesbbs Aw dang, that's pretty. I've got an Apple IIe but I keep eyeing up Platinums, since that's what we used for AppleWorks on my high school newspaper for years
